The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers undergraduate courses, four year Bachelor of Technology(B.Tech.) and five Year Dual Degree (B.Tech.+ M.Tech. combined) programme with specialisations in:
1.) B.Tech First Year(Common for Dual-Degree)
2.) Computer Aided Design and Automation
3.) Computer Integrated Manufacturing
DD-TFE programme has been stopped this year(JEE2009) and the number of seats in TFE dual degree course have been transferred to BTech in Mechanical Engineering.
The new curriculum for the DD and BTech programsAlthough students completing an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering are well prepared for a rewarding an interesting career, there are further rewards for the student who completes a post-graduate degree. By having worked closely with professors who are at the cutting edge of the new technologies, these students have gained the extra skills and deeper understanding that will lay the foundation for a more exciting career, one that has greater scope for advancement and personal fulfilment.
In addition, those students who proceed to a Ph.D. open up the possibility of a career as a university professor or as a leader in an industrial or government research laboratory.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay is particularly suited for offering the student the extra edge that a postgraduate degree can offer. The Department offers 4 Semester M.Tech. program with three specialisations and two inter-disciplinary programmes.
The three specialisations are:
1. Thermal and Fluids Engineering
2. Design Engineering
3. Manufacturing Engineering
