SYLLABUS

CASTING PROCESSES : Green sand, Shell, Investment, Centrifugal, Gravity Die and Pressure die casting, Pattern design, Cores, Sand testing, gating design, solidification of casting, defects,remedies and inspection.

METAL FORMING PROCESSES : Rolling, forging, extrusion, bar and wire drawing, sheet metal operations, simple analysis, application of the processes, defects and remedies, introduction to modern forming processes.

JOINING PROCESSES : Arc, thermochemical, solid phase welding processes and equipment, Brazing, Soldering, Diffusion bonding, EBW, LBW and other special joining methods, simple analysis and process capabilities, Weldability testing, defects and remedies.

INTRODUCTION to powder metallurgy, Introduction to processing of polymers.

ASSESSMENT PLAN
Quiz -> 20%; Mid Semetser -> 25%; Attendance -> 5%; End Semester -> 50%
