SYLLABUS

SOLIDIFICATION of pure metals, alloys and eutectic.
SOLIDIFICATION of alloys of narrow and long freezing range in non-metallic and metallic moulds.
MATHEMATICAL treatment of solodification rates - exact and approximate methods.
EXPERIMENTAL studies in solidification rates in sand and chill molds.
PRINCIPLE of metal flow.
ANALYSIS of heat sources for welding.
MECHANISM of metal transfer and solidification of fusion weldments.
THERMAL stresses and distortion in welded structures.
MECHANISM of solid state joining process.

ASSESSMENT PLAN
Quiz -> 20%; Course Seminar -> 20%; Attendance -> 10%; End Semester -> 50%
