The National Society for Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power (NSFMFP) was established in 1973 as a registered professional society to promote advancement and activities in all aspects of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power in India. The Society invites applications for the NSFMFP Best Ph.D. Thesis Lecture Award 2026 from recent doctoral recipients who have conducted their thesis in the Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power area. This award recognizes young scholars who have conducted impactful research in Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power during their doctoral studies.

Details of the award

• The awardee(s) will be invited for a Keynote Lecture at the Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power (FMFP) conference at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela in December 2026
• Expenses for travel (national), boarding, lodging, and registration fees at the conference for the awardees will be provided by NSFMFP and conference organizers
• Up to 4 Best Ph.D. Thesis Lecture Awardees will be selected by the award committee
• The Award Certificate from NSFMFP will be presented during the FMFP conference at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela in December 2026

Eligibility Criterion

1. Candidates should have successfully defended their thesis between and including 1st January 2025 to 31st July 2026 (last date of application).
2. The thesis topic should be directly related to the areas of Fluid Mechanics and/or Fluid Power.
3. The Ph.D. degree should be from an Indian university or institute.
4. Candidates may have an Indian or a foreign nationality.
5. Applicants with Ph.D. degrees awarded jointly by Indian and foreign universities/institutes will also be considered eligible.
6. Only one attempt will be allowed. Applicants who apply for the award in 2026 will not be eligible for the award in 2027.

1. Ph.D. thesis, along with Ph.D. completion certificate/degree
2. Short (up to 5 pages) write-up, highlighting the impact of the work along with important results. The write-up should clearly describe the research work carried out in the thesis, the academic impact, and the societal impact of the research
3. List of SCI/SCIE-indexed refereed journal publications and patents resulting from the Ph.D. thesis
4. Updated Curriculum Vitae (with list of all Publications, Patents, Awards, etc)
5. List of two references and two signed recommendation letters on official letterhead emailed directly by the references to NSFMFP email ID. The letters should clearly highlight the candidate's research contribution to the Fluid Mechanics and/or Fluid Power area. At least one recommendation letter should be from a Ph.D. supervisor
6. Self-attested scan of government-issued photo ID and passport photograph

Selection of awardee(s)

The executive committee for NSFMFP will appoint a selection committee consisting of eminent scientists in the Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power area to shortlist the awardee(s). All the information provided in the application will be considered for the final selection of awardees. The decision taken by the selection committee will be final and binding for all applicants.
