NSM Workshop on High Performance Computing (HPC) for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Applications

May 17-20, 2022

Organized by IIT Bombay and C-DAC  and Under the aegis of National Supercomputing Mission

About the Workshop:

In recent times, different research areas like external aerodynamics, transient flow, turbulent flow, combustion, forest fire spread, plume dispersion of pollution in air/water in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) rely on high performance computing (HPC) resource for computational studies. This workshop aims to cover different numerical methods used in CFD for solving problems in such areas using HPC. Basics of HPC programming framework will be complemented by timely and relevant topics in CFD where HPC resources are indispensable.

Topics:

  • Introduction to HPC
  • OpenMP & MPI with demonstration
  • CUDA and GPU optimized codes
  • Finite Difference Method (FDM) and its domain decomposition methods
  • Finite Volume Method (FVM) in incompressible flow equations - pressure based
  • FVM in compressible flow equations - density based
  • Finite Element Method (FEM)
  • Spectral Methods
  • Continuous Galerkin (CG) finite element method
  • Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element method

Speakers:

Prof. Shivasubramanian Gopalakrishnan, IIT Bombay

Prof. Mahendra K. Verma, IIT Kanpur

Prof. Somnath Roy, IIT Kharagpur

Prof. Ashoke De, IIT Kanpur

Bharat Kumar, NVIDIA
