Central Workshop is the largest laboratory in Mechanical Engineering Department of IIT Bombay spanning over N2 BAY (Machine shop), N3 BAY (Welding section) and F3 SHED (Carpentry amd Fitting sections). The central workshop primarily caters to the 1st Year UG Workshop Practice (ME 113) course (for all disciplines) and 2nd year Manufacturing Practice Laboratory (ME 213) course (for Mechanical Engineering students only). The welding experiments for senior undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory courses are also handled in the central workshop. Facilties The machine shop (N2 Bay) houses thirty center lathes, twenty shaping machines, one radial drilling machine, two horizontal and two vertical milling machines, two band-saw mahines and a few other small machine tools and surface plates (used for marking purposes). One extension of the machine shop is the CNC room in N3 Bay that houses two CNC (one lathe and one milling) machines. The welding section (N3 Bay) houses six welding cubicles each with a DC inverter type welding power source, one band-saw machine and one shearing machine.
