Heat Pump Laboratory at IIT Bombay, HPL_IITB

 

Heat Pump Laboratory at IIT Bombay, HPL_IITB, is a Research and Development Laboratory having Energy Conservation, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning along with Alternate Energy Resources as the Current Areas of Activity.

 

It has good fabrication facility well supported by dedicated team of seven fabrication staff, three office staff to help with procurement inventory management and about 15 to 20 project engineers / students working with Prof M V Rane.

 

HPL_IITB has a good portfolio of 32 versatile Indian Patents Filed, of which all of the first 17 have been granted (5 Defended Awaiting Grant + 14 Awaiting Examination); European Patents 3 Granted, PCT 7 filed. 

 

More than 25 technologies have already been Developed/Demonstrated/Licensed.  Some of the prominent one are

  1. Tube-Tube Heat Exchangers, TT_HE, deployed as Superheat Recovery Water Heaters, Heat Pumps, Potable Water Chillers, Reactor for Chemical Industry, etc.
  2. Multi-Utility Heat Pumps, MU_HP, deployed as 3 in 1 Industrial Heat Pumps, 4 in 1 Residential Heat Pumps, 6 in 1 Heat Pump for Canteen Application, etc.
  3. Rotating Contacting Device, RCD, deployed as Evaporative Condensers, Evaporative Coolers, Liquid Desiccant based Air Conditioning and Drying, Waste Water Vapourizers, Indirect Evaporative Coolers, Biogas Purification, etc.
