Deepak Marla is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he leads the Laser Advanced Materials Processing (LAMP) Lab. His research focuses on laser-based micro- and nano-fabrication, the fundamentals of laser–matter interaction, and multiphysics modelling of manufacturing processes, with applications ranging from precision machining to silicon solar cell manufacturing.
He received his B.Tech. (2007) and Ph.D. (2013) in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay. Before joining the faculty in 2017, he held postdoctoral positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA (2013–2015) and at the Technical University of Denmark (2015–2017), where he was a Marie Curie Fellow.
He currently serves as the Vice-Chairperson of the Student Wellness Centre, and as Professor In-Charge of Flourishing Hub, NSS IIT Bombay and the Group for Rural Activities.
